The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia hosted a forum dedicated to EU Twining project

On July 12 2019, a forum dedicated to increase knowledge and information about EU technical twinning project – “Supporting the Accession of Georgia to the EU Conventions in Transit Area and Launching of the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS)”, which is currently ongoing at the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, was held at Hotel Sheraton Metechi Palace.
Director General of the Revenue Service Mr. Vakhtang Lashkaradze, Deputy DGs - Mr. Irakli Shartava and Mr. Vladimir Khundadze, as well as the representatives from the different Government Agencies and Business Sector participated the forum. Experts from the customs administrations of partner countries (Latvia, Finland and Poland) also attended the event. As for sharing experiences, representative of Republic of Turkey also participated in the forum as an honorable guest.
Mr. Mamuka Jangulashvili, the Head of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, opened the event with a welcome speech.  He stated that the Customs Department is actively working in order to become a member of the EU transit family.
“According to the commitments taken under EU - Georgia Association Agreement and its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), Customs Department of the Revenue Service is actively working to become a member of EU transit family, through implementing important legislative reforms, as well as introducing new information technology systems" - said Mr. Mamuka Jangulashvili.
During presentations and speeches, Mrs. Pirjo Kotro, EU Member state’s Project Leader, Mr. Samson Uridia, beneficiary country’s project leader, Mr. Merab Arakhamia, Deputy Head of Customs Department of Revenue Service and Mr. Arto Lillman, Project’s Regional Twining Adviser, discussed the above-mentioned project’s goal and future impacts on a panel discussion.
The aim of the forum is to increase knowledge and information about Georgia’s accession to the EU Conventions in the transit area and implementation of a New Computerized Transit System (NCTS).
